Is there a statute of limitations in Michigan on property improvement and taxable valuation?

Eight or nine years ago we finished our walkout basement. Recently the township assessor has asked to see the improvement and wants to re-establish our property value. We live in Michigan and have limits on taxable property increases.

Could we successfully challenge a related increase in our taxes?

Answers:
Normally the property appraiser comes around once a year to do their evaluations on home improvements. Obviously, this person isn't doing their job. I would go and talk to the local county Judge and get his opinion on this, as this would be a free service and good legal advise.
