Can people make bids on their own items on e-bay - or cheat in any other way by geting their friends to?!?
Answers:
Oh yes, lots of people get their mates to bid on things to push the prices up. It's called shill bidding and although ebay take a dim view of it, it's hard to prove that someone is doing it. I have inadvertently bid on an item from someone I knew locally and didn't know it until I picked it up.
As far as I know there is no way (yet) of seeing other people's maximum bids, but by bidding in increments you can work it out.
Yes.
No.
no coz ebay tracks everyone and always catch the rip off artists.
You can't bid on your own items but you can get friends/family to.
It's called "Shill Bidding" and is highly frowned upon. They have very clever ways of finding out if you've done this so I would be careful if you're thinking about it.
If they do find out they will probably close your account for a period of time and warn you.
I did once get a mate to bid on an item that my girlfriend conveniently lost after someone had bid on it. I got him to bid £1000 and then ended the item immediately, which is naughty but had to be done.
You can't see what anyone else bid unless you bid higher, then your new bid will be one jump higher than the next highest.
You cant bid on your own item but there is nothing to stop you asking a mate to bump the price up a bit. The danger being that your mate might end up with something he didnt want or need. You cant see people maximum bid tho
There was a guy once , who cheated on his pilots exam ,I think he was buried with the remains of his plane !
You can get friends to bid, but.. It is against ebay rules and if you get caught you may well be banned from ebay. Be careful and good luck.
they say that its not allowed but it does go on. you cannot be linked to all people you know.for instance your best mate could live 30 miles away and they could bid on your item because ebay would not know. The answer is yes shill bidding can and does go on!
