An employee of ours just got married and I need to change how much is being withheld for taxes.?

Can someone please help me? (We are an Indiana business)

Answer:
It is up to the employee to fill out a new w-4 and update it. The new employee doesn't necessarily have to do this. they can keep it this way for the rest of the year if they choose. If they want big refunds and know they are paying enough, they can keep it at single if they choose. If they want to break even, they can go by the charts in the circular on the irs site, or if they know they have enough deductions and credits then they can choose to put alot of dependents on their w-4 and not have anything withheld. so no worries for you, it is their choice. but you generally can't just change it for them, they have to be the ones to change thier w-4 form, but you can ask them what they want to do.
Have them fill out a new W-4 form.
If this is your part of your job, shouldn't you already know the answer?
You don't change anything without a W4 from the employee. Go to irs.gov and look up publication 15 Circular E. It has a chart to show you how to calculate the new withholding. Contact your state for their chart.
The employee needs to fill out a new W4 form.
Then if your using a payroll program in Quickbooks
or something, you just update there employee file.
**If this persons spouse works also, then you may
not need to add an additional dependent as the
spouce probably claims them self at their job.
ANY WAY if your doing payroll by hand, then go to
the government website for your state and look up
the % to be withheld for the new # of dependents
and status (ie. head of household, married filing separate
etc..).

Good Luck
