In california, is state tax included in sales tax?

Can someone please better explain if state tax and sales taxes are different.

Answer:
Yes, state taxes are paid by individuals & business on income earned and collected by the Franchise Tax Board. Sales taxes are paid on items purchased and collected by the Board of Equalization.
Sales tax goes to the State of California and in some cases, the local government might also be adding to that. I am not sure of the rates, but if California is 6% and San Diego is 1%, the merchant collects 7% and sends that to the state. The state then sends San Diego their 1%.
Sales tax is usually divided into 3 components: the state rate, the county rate, and the city rate. By combining these 3 elements, you get the total rate for sales tax.
