Are Consulting fees taxable? State of Texas?

Should a consultant charge taxes on consulting services rendered and pay the taxes to the state?

Answer:
No.they are "services" rendered, your intellectual property; you do not get taxed when using the dentist, a nurse, pharmacist etc and yes, I live in Texas. Just for your piece of mind though..try contacting the state Comptroller and ask. They are who you pay sales tax to.
The consultant reports the fees collected as self employed income and if over $400 after expenses will be subject to self employment (social security) tax.
If combined with enough other income then it will be subject to fed & state tax.
If you are the one who paid the fee then it it is dedcutile if you run a business or if its investment advice it is deductible if you itemize.
