If the IRS is auditing you for 2 years now, will they do it for the next, too?

If you are being audited for 2003-2004, what are the chances of being audited for 2005, too?

Answer:
I don't fully agree with the others
Each year is based on its own merits.
However certain items on the return are more subject to audit than others such as, self employed income, deductions, and differences from reported income and that shown on the return.
If you had problems with certain items in the past then they are more likely to scrutinize those same items again till they are convinced they are being reported correctly.
I would think the chances would be good. Your being watched for some reason. I would make sure all your taxes are on the up and up for the next few years at least.
your chances are good. keep it clean.
i was formerly a tax preparer. the answer is yes. if they find a error or mistake they can go forward and backward up to two years. if they find errrors then they can go forward or backward 8 years. for your sake i hope it is not to painful. if you are having major problems get a tax lawyer to work for you.
Usually if there was no change in the two previous tax year liabilities you can get out of the third by reminding them of the facts even though you may get a notice.

Kind of harassment don't you think?
