I do not get taxed. Does that mean I will have to pay taxes on the next tax filling date?
Answers:
Probably your coordinator knows from past experience that based on whatever number of hours you are working and your pay rate, that you will not have any federal tax liability at year end. So he/she is giving you more in your paycheck upfront, rather than taking federal withholding out weekly/bi-weekly or however you get paid, and you having to file a federal tax return at year end to get it all back.
if you go exempt for 6 months and non-exempt for the next 6 months then you wouldnt have to.I am like you i go to school and i make 8/hr so this is what i do. i havent tried going exempt for a whole year but i believe you will have to if you do a entire year. as i said i only go partial 6 and i dont have to pay taxes well i didnt on the past refund. my sister accidentally went past 6 months and was late removing the status so it went over into 7 months and she did not have to pay it back right then but they later started garnishing her check and she owed 500.
Withholding taxes are based on the amount earned in the pay period, so it is possible that you don't earn enough during the pay period to have taxes withheld. However.
It is also possible that you would have to pay tax next filing season; but that depends on other things. Do you have any other income, such as interest from a bank account or investments that were made for you or a summer job? The coordinator should have had you fill out the W-4 form regardless of her "past experience" with others in that position. My suggestion is to go to www.irs.gov and download a W-4 Form and submit it to have taxes withheld. To me it is better to have some tax withheld than to owe on April 15th.
