Food is not taxed, clothing is. And of course we have various county taxes for fun.

8.3%- WA state
Nothing on groceries, 5% plus county sales taxes which could add another 1/2 to 3/4 % on other sutff, more tax on gasoline. Tax on some utilities in summer but not in winter. This is Wisconsin. However, if you are on welfare then it makes no difference since everything is free regardless.
Illinois State Sales Tax (meals, etc.): 6.25%
Illinois State Motel/Hotel Tax: 6%
Northern California is 7.25 %
Washington state, goes my each county, I'm in Thurston , its 8.4. but thats different than Grays Harbor, its 8.3%, check all counties too
