Can a person be paid by petty cash for a days work and the receipt put through as odds and ends?

Answers:
The person can be paid through petty cash, but it should be described as 'wages'. If the payment is below the PAYE and NIC threshold, you just record their name and address. If they are above the threshold and you don't know if they have another job, you complete a P11 and deduct basic rate tax. If you know they don't have another job, you complete a P11 and operate emergency tax. In none of these cases do you inform HMRC at the time of payment, but you include the person in your end of year P35.
noas you have to pay for tax, and other things like towards your stamps which are for state pension (UK)
Sure, if you don't mind being a part of money laundering.
?
No, it's illegal. By doing that, tax and national insurance would not be deducted. Tax evasion and of course false accounting. I'm sure it happens but.
