What is the best software to use when building a website for a small business?
Answer:
Yahoo offers you the ability to get your domain name (www.you.com), host your web site, and provide tools for building the web site.
go to yahoo.com and find the link for domain names.
OSCOMMERCE. by far the best. pending on your host most include it.
100% FREE merchant code for selling things.. it has a whole crapload of features and inventory management, statistics anythign you can think of .
Check it out
www.oscommerce.com
Thats what i would use
Note, im not advertising it for my own personal gain ( i have no affiliation with it), I just really like the software. it opened so many doors for me
Oh for cheap hosting I use Hostexcellence. its all you really need it includes os commerce and free domain name registration and is like 4.99 a month or something. I think they are located in india or something (but it really doesnt matter)
Dont use Yahoo its a ripoff!
Hope I helped!
I used yahoo small business "sitebuilder". It is easy to follow and free with your domain name. It only costs when you publish it.
The site below is so easy to use. I was really surprised. Very user friendly

Probably Dreamweaver. But consider this, if you are building a website and you are looking for a professional look and you don't have experience building websites then you really should be hiring a designer.
http://www.elance.com if you want to outsource. Freelancers will bid on your project so you get super competitive prices.

I'd also check out http://www.prostores.com it's an Ebay/Paypal associated company, very professional good place to make a web store.
For software to design pages? My order of preference is:
Macromedia Dreamweaver - The Big Daddy of them all, it's awesome.
Microsoft Frontpage - The 2003 Version is very good.
Nvu - Free program, has many good features, but not as full blown as the other two. But you could do anything in it.
You're choosing a tough market to enter, filled with big boys..Choose a niche, and go for it.
Hello --
I can only say that depending on your comfort level with html, design, knowledge of web site tools, etc, determines what road might work best for you. I know of some that would use ebay as there primary mode to do just what you are considering. That is a viable option.

I personally like to code mine in raw text. so many of the other programs add in so much garbage it makes it hard to edit things with out using the program as well as some things can't be done with some of the programs out there. but it is easier and quicker.. some people will say. I guess it really just depends.. but for me personally I found it was easier to learn how to code "in the raw" that to learn dream weaver, SQL, VB, java or anything else. they are just so expansive and take a ton of reading..
another thing you could do is go with a company to do it for you. and if you are going to go that route why not get a whole host of useful services included. check out my blog for more details. http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-nvht11q8e.
