Associations may be a good avenue to explore. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.
Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

the first thing i did was make flyers and post them around town in small businesses and stuff like that. after that people would call me and then would refer me to people they knew and it would keep growing. after a while my business grew to include some small landscaping just by telling the people that i cut grass for that i could do it for them. when i first started i only had a push mower, but saved up some money and bought a nice used self propelled 42" cut lawn mower
My son made fliers stating that he mowed and trimmed lawns. He put his first name and phone number on the fliers.
The first year, he wasn't driving,so he passed them around throughout the neighborhood.
He mowed lawns for five summers and had a really good business by the time he graduated from High School.
the basic lawn is an avrage of 15 bucks pluse an extra 5 every time you fertelize. try to have 1 back up mower and weed eater just incease. rember to sharpen blades and change oil about every other week, if you do trimmings thn you need to charge at least 100 bucks usualy. i know a lot more but it escapes me right now.
