I was thinking of maybe setting up a pool hall for youngsters in my area?

they have no where to go and i thought it could be a good money earner, all the money going in the pool machines and have some video games and pinball and maybe a small food area selling burgers and a vending machine

good idea?

anyone know about how i do this? any legal issues? etc

Answers:
It wouldn't make much money, the cost of people playing pool and video games will be minimal when compared to your rent, overheads etc.
Not sure about the legal issues and that but i think thats a great idea. its great that your giving young people somewhere to go and trying to help keep them off the streets. I wish there were more people like you...

I hope it all goes well neway Good Luck xx
the kids that are hanging about don't have any money, thats why they are just hanging about.

they probably couldn't afford to pay to come and would probably steal anything not tied down and smash your place up.
Seen this done a few times , all failed because the kids turn up drunk and the police decide it would be better for everyone if the place was closed down and the kids go back to drinking in dark alleys .
Yes i believe you need council approval and perhaps the police also. While a pool hall for youngsters is an excellent idea it also attracts louts and unfortunately drug dealers who prey on the young.
This is a great idea. Where I live someone did this with a youth aimed cyber cafe and it drastically reduced antisocial complaints and petty crime.

I'm afraid I cannot offer practical help, except to enquire at the council as sometimes they have people who help with community projects and you would be suprised the amount of grants available.

Good luck.
Sounds like a good idea, you'd probably need clearance from the government to work with youngsters a CRB(criminal records beuroe) check etc!
this is a brilliant idea, especially if you can organise tournaments and parties there as well, but if you are looking to provide music you will need a licence from the performing rights society on 0845 309 3090.

You will also need to look at health and safety issues etc... so your gonna need to professional advice. Pool Halls can be costly to set up depending on the size of hall and number to tables and arcade machines etc.. KER videos maybe able to give you some advice regarding hiring machines. you can contact them on 01773 530315.

It might be worth asking someone in the business like Rileys as they have pool and snooker halls all over the place and im sure you can find some info on the net on how to contact them. they may even help you or enter into a franchise etc...

good luck
