I am thinking about starting a Plus size consignment shop. Do you think that would be a good idea?

I am a business management major and I have always wanted to open up my own business. I wanted to do something different and something fun. I'm plus size myself(obviously) and I have a serious passion for fashion( hope that didn't sound too corny) I know it takes more than a knowledge of fashion but business sense (i have both because i am a business major and i went to a design school) So i think it would be too much fun to do this! What do you think?

Answer:
I say go for it! Sounds like a great idea.
You may be onto something, there's a lot of fat women!
I think it'd be a great idea.Besides.it's hard to find nice clothes in plus sizes.
Considering that 85% of America is considered overweight, it might work, but how would you guaranty the clothing?
I think that would be a great idea because us plus size women can not find enough good fashions because of our size
I think it would probably be a good idea since most americans are plus size these days. However it would probably depend on your location.
I think it's a great idea and the plus size people in your area will thank you for it. Good Luck!
I think its a great idea! The average size in the usa is increasing so there is a need for what you propose as good plus size clothing can be quite pricey. good luck.
That would be a very good idea in my opinion, possibly like in a larger suburban type area or (if possible) a downtown/shopping district of a larger/capitol city.

If you try, goodluck!
go for it. There is not that many places anywhere that plus size can find good clothes. I think you would do good with it. Just make your business plan and all out first.
As a plus sized woman myself, I think it is a great idea. There are not enough places to get really nice clothes unless we pay a nice heavy price. I am sure there are other women out there who would be interested in getting some very good clothes this way.
well obesity is a "growth" industry in North America (pun intended) - so you'll probably have no shortage of customers..

sound's like you be good at it - you haven insight and motivation and seems like something you love.. all crieteria for successful entrepeneurship.. good luck!
Plus sized people are forced to wear what ever fits no matter how crappy it is, so you would be a breath of fresh air!
Absolutely.in fact I'd even advertise a couple items on ebay to increase sales. I have recently lost weight and went from an 18/20 to a size 12. I had so many beautiful, expensive clothes, some with tags still on them and nobody to even give them away too. Do it. It is a great idea. In fact.if you do start the business I have saved some fabulous sequined/beaded coctail dresses that I just cannot put in the trash because they were only worn once. I would love to ship them to to you for sale. Would be worth it to me.
The majority of the women in the States would flock to a shop where they were sure they would find something that both fit them and was fashionable. Less than 10% of the women in this country, over the age of 35 (in other words the women who have all the money in the country) are a size 14 or under. You do the math from there on out. Open one in my town and I know ten people who would be regulars right now. Not huge gals, just over a size 14.

I have been a professional for years and much of the clothing I own has been worn only once or twice, including evening gowns. I would stock your shop, and patronize it too.
Absolutely!! You certainly have the right attitude for the job. I managed a consignment shop for 4 years and I loved it.

There aren't many consignment shops with fashionable, quality Plus size clothing. Catering to the plus size customer, great concept. I am sure it will be very successful.

Good luck :)
Sounds to me like this would be a perfect time as a good percentage of our adult female population wears a size 14 OR MORE ! This market is under served and ripe for success. Good Luck!
Sounds like an idea that has promise. Be sure you have a solid business plan written up, including how you're going to make money to cover your expenses and also make a living from it. Be aware that the business will take a lot of your time - include that in your planning.

Good luck from another Plus-size woman.
Some rules of thumb:

You've really gotta like people!
Can you afford to do this? Do you have a year's salary available to live on, plus money for overhead (rent, staff, etc.)?
Do you have the energy to put into a business that is going to swallow up most of your time?
