Answer:
It may take some capital to start, but you can try the Small Business Administration for grants and/or loans. Many businesses are started with a business loan. It is a good idea to write a business plan to get the financial assistance. Check with the SBA about that too. There are courses on business plans that will guide you in the process.

First, though, you need to choose a business that you and maybe your fiance have a passion for. Do you think you will be as interested in the wedding business after you have been married for 5 years?

Consider volunteering to be the wedding coordinator at your church and see how you like doing the work. As you volunteer, you will make contacts with caterers, florists, photographers and other wedding vendors that you can call on when and if you decide to make it your business.
My local school district offers classed in wedding planners. I cant remember how many weeks it was, but it was during the evening. Check your local large school district. Every business takes some money.
It depends where you are located. That old phrase "location, location, location" fits with this job market.

If you are not in a high end wedding destination area then most likely you will not make more than 20,000 a year and that is stretching it.

Being a wedding planner or an event planner is very hard work. Keep in mind that you are not just dealing with the bride and groom but their family, friends, and whoever else thinks they want to throw in their 2 cents worth.

It is a very rewarding career if you are in the right city, have the deep pockets to get your business started and the right contacts. If you don't advertise and get a good book going then most likely the business won't take off.

If you are seriously thinking about doing it try planning a friends wedding first and see if this is something that you really want to get into.
