Running a hair salon?

Around where I live, a woman is selling her hair salon because she's tired of managing it and just wants to work their. She's selling it for around 3,000-4,000 dollars including the equipment, and you also have to pay rent at the building. I don't really know much about operating a salon and I'm not certified in cosmetology (but all of the employees are). How realistic is it for me to buy this salon and successfully operate it?

Answer:
well first of all you have to get a establishment license. is she going to let you run your business from her cosmetology license or is she going to charge you? also that amount might be good depending on the equipment and is it in a good place or not and what is the track record of her salon? Does it have good clientele? You need to make out a contract that the booth renters need to sign and let them know your rules. easy going is better but make sure it stays clean also you might want to put in the contract the amount of time they have to stay with you and how much notice they have to give if they are not going to renew with you but i would leave your end open depending one the person that they have to buy there own products or what ever you are going to do on that part also that they are all clean people and respect that it is now your shop and maybe i would go to school and get your license. i am a nail tech and have owned my own shop and it is better when you own your building if you can rent to own good luck
3grand sounds so good. to buy a business. as long as rent is not expensive and the electric bill. and if the place makes money. i would sure invest in it. you dont have to know cosmotoloy cause you wont be doing that. you will be the owner not the employee. some folks like to rent out booths.
Hello

Operating a business successfully is a hard task and since you don't have experience in this market, that's going to make it even harder ( although sometimes that's an advantage ).

Normally it isn't something that is recommended but if you are willing to learn quick, put in the long hours and get help, you should be ok since this business sounds like it already have a built-in client list. The key is going to be growing the business because 3k - 4k a month is ok, but you could certainly do better. By outsourcing some of the regular business tasks, marketing and working together with other non-competing businesses, you can increase your business.
