What's a Blog? Okay, I'm an old guy who doesn't have a clue.?

I'm trying to reach people who might be interested in my business and services in my "specific", Johnson County, TX location. Would A blog site do the trick for me? Any input would help. Thank you very much.

Blog is an abreviation for web log where people put their thoughts etc onto a website in a similar manner to a diary.

They can be very useful sales tools. However, the trick is to get people to visit your blog to be able to expose them to your products/services.

There are two manners of doing business on the Web. You can utilize the Web to expand your bricks-and-mortar business, or you can start an entirely web-based business. Both routes require time and commitment to learning how e-commerce works and what it takes to build and maintain a successful website.

Perhaps the most amazing aspect of the Internet is that you can communicate with, and do business with, anyone in any part of the world as long as he's connected to the web. Internet Service Providers (ISPs) link you to places around the globe in seconds, and doing business is a couple of clicks away. Therefore, your first customers on a web-based business in Ohio could be from Sydney, Australia, a location you would never have reached through traditional business methods a decade ago.

Additionally, the Internet provides, to some degree, a level playing field between large and small companies. For example, if you put together an excellent looking site working from your basement, and a multi-million dollar company puts together a site working from its own industrial park, someone looking at the two sites on their computer may not see any significant difference

I am an "oldie" myself and appreciate the benefits of internet marketing.
A blog is like an online journal. What you would want for your business is an informational, professional website.

I create websites as my business. Let me know if you're interested.

a blog is a page where people can write about their life, or imput, or anything they want.
myspace has a great area for blogs. It would help you advance your buisness if you put a link page from your blog on your business site.
You blog could talk about your business and services.
Blog is short for Web Log - basically and online "Dear Diary". It is a place where you can express your opinions to the world.

As for your goals, it could help. When you don't have the resources to put up your own web site, there are plenty of free blogs that could do the trick, but some may have rules about using blogs for strictly commercial purposes.
Blogs are usually used as public diaries. People share there thoughts so everyone can here them, and others can comment on them. If you are looking to place something for your buisness, I would suggest finding a more professional outlet. Search on yahoo search and google for starting your own website or search blog sites to see what they are offering.
A "blog" is slang for "Web log." It's a personal journal that you put up in a public place on the web to share your thoughts with others.

A blog wouldn't be as effective for you as a standard web page. A regular page can be set up as an online brochure, telling people everything they need to know about your business.

Some businesses put a blog up along with their standard page. For example, a nursery might have a blog devoted to gardening tips. This is a good way to get people to visit your site frequently, so that they get information they want and a chance to see what your specials are this week.

It's not terribly expensive to set up a web page, and you can probably find a high schooler or college kid who will create it for you at a reasonable price. You can also contract with a professional services firm that will cost more, but will have real world experience with marketing (taking some of the guess work out for you).

Good luck to you.
