Does any one have advice on IT contracting - should it be Umbrella or Ltd company?
Answer:
With your limited company you have more control, and if you have a decent accountant that you know and trust, he can manage the books for you and probably charge less than the admin fee of an umbrella company, especially if you'll only be running one contract at a time and just yourself as PAYE.
As a limited company you probably also have more scope to make entirely legitimate charges against tax, such as for use of a room in your house as an office. But you'll have to make sure you stay on top of all the paperwork (especially VAT), and if you don't want to get involved in that, by all means pay someone else to take the hassle.
Maybe the best solution is to talk to someone from an umbrella company, talk to an indpendent accountant, and compare what they say.
The umbrella route opens you up to a little more risk, so it would really depend on your situation
