Where has all of the business gone? Is everyone else hurting like we are?

Are other self-employed businesses hurting from lack of work?

Answers:
It doesn't matter what is happening there are always businesses doing well and some doing not so well at every time in every economy.

People like Jeff Magee with Performance Magazine actual teach businesses how to think outside the box and do well in any environment.

There are others who have great information on that also, but I've recently seen Jeff Magee do it with some companies so I mention him.

Get on his mailing list or maybe subscribe to his magazine.

Also, check into ceo space. Resources below.
There is always opportunity out there. If business close, they were not quick enough to adapt to the changes around them. If people are not buying your service or product, you need to find something else that you can offer them. If you have access to your customers, call them or ask them when you see to see why they are not buying and ask them if they would be interested in another service that you have. You can use that information to survive.
walmart.

they have run out a lot of small business.

when they move in you just can not match their prices.
All are hurting the price of gas, heat etc has put a damper on everyones disposable income, add the housing market crash which has been coming for some time and what you have left is a possible recession. Costs have risen percentage wise way above income, the increased value of home made up for the difference, and the ability to get loans on that perceived increase in value, which is now just starting to adjust, and my belief is there will be more fallout from this, mainly because the prices where held artificially high. Hold on for a rough I think about 3 years
Put on you're thinking cap. Invite customers/people to a focus group or to take a survey. What has changed in your area? Advertise, offer coupons. All companies big & little have to keep coming up with new ideas.

Have you lost interest in what you do? Do a self assessment.
I also recommend reading the book: "Never Eat Alone".
It's tough in today's economy, espeically 'cause of the gas prices.. People are trying to do things themselves to save where they can. If you can, reduce your prices a little. You may not bring in a huge profit. Just maybe, you'll be able to attract more business.
