What is the best way to advertise a new business?

I have recently started my own cleaning service in Tallahassee FL called Precision Cleaning. I have done every thing right. From business licence to having someone profecionaly design a web site and flyers with referal cards. Business has not quite gone the way I had hoped it would. What is the best way to get my name out there and get the business going?

Answer:
Well, your first problem is that you're not searchable. I checked google and yahoo and couldn't find your website (although I did find a few classified adds.Assuming your name is Ashley Wright that is).

Here are my suggestions

1) go to the below link and see if your site is being indexed by google. If its not, add it.
http://www.google.com/webmasters/.

2) Consider bartering services with local businesses. You can almost always get some free airtime from local radio stations in exchange for cleaning the offices (or homes) of the on-air personalities.

3) Identify your target market. You need to pick an area (commercial, private home, etc) and focus on it because you will market to each differently.

Here are a couple of examples.
If you want to focus on homeowners, you might consider a cross promotion with a supermarket. Do something like offer to push their store brand of cleaning products to your customers in exchange for your name printed on a shopping bag.

If you want to focus on business you have other issues. You have to show them that you are properly insured and bonded, have done thorough background checks on your employees, and can provide a benefit over the service they are using now. This means that you need to find out who they are using now and make sure you are either cheaper, better or both.

The point is that gaining customers is expensive and time consuming and the more focused on your target market your advertising is, the better results you will see.
"I have done everything right"--yeah, sure. Where is this topic in your business plan, huh?
have some flyers printed up, and go house to house putting them on doorknobs.
What are you cleaning?

If it's houses, try going to property management companies to solicit some business. If it's cars, go to car dealerships. You get the point.

Seek out avenues that will provide consistent, professional business.

Good luck.
Spend some time thinking about your best customer, the kind that would need your service the most. Working moms? real estate agents that are trying to touch up an estate?
Where do those people hang out? on the web and in your local area?

Post your flyer's in those localities around your area and have your site link on sites that those people would visit frequently. For example moms probably frequently visit day care centers, grocery stores and offices and on the web visit women centered sites.
If your current customers are pleased with your work, ask them for referals. Word of mouth goes a long way.
