Here are some tips on how to sell to baby boomers and older demographics:

1. Do not talk down to, or treat them as children, or remind them of their age. Most do not consider themselves "old."

2. Although there is disagreement about using words like "senior citizen," reserve such terms for World War II veterans, but not for the leading edge of the baby boomers who started turning 55 in 2001.

3. Use realistic but positive images of mature people. Show people with wrinkles but have them doing something active.

4. Stick to the facts about your product or service. Mature people make more independent judgments and base their decisions on information rather than peer pressure.

5. Design your communications so that older people will stick around and read what you have to say.

6. Avoid overly busy website design; small type sizes; garish colors; and gratuitous design elements such as flash or slow-loading graphics.

7. Avoid "hype" at all costs. The older consumer has "seen it all" and is naturally skeptical.

8. Win mature people over gradually. You will have to gain their trust before they will buy from you.

9. Give them content. Older people are avid readers and will appreciate the information you provide.

10. Sell what appeals to the mature audience such as health products and information; tips on managing their retirement assets; ideas for low-cost travel; help with buying gifts for their grandchildren; the low-down on the best places to retire; products that make it easier for them to stay in their own homes; ways to earn extra income; and opportunities to save money.
How about a travel agency specializing in group tours for that age bracket? They're retiring in droves and have both the time and extra money to travel.
Vitamins are big right now and the baby boomers are at the perfect age. A supplement business might work out and there are already affiliate programs for those.

Home items are good too - decor, accessories, kitchen items, etc. Gourmet foods, maybe.

Services - computer repair, Internet tutoring, etc.

I too was interested in tapping into the baby boomers and have done just that. It is a proven fact that when you stay a step ahead of these people who have the most disposable income, you will be giving yourself an 18 year window of opportunity. Just as Gerber was in the 50's, Fisher Price and Mattel in the 60's, Real Estate and Tupperware in the 70's, etc.
What the boomers are looking for now is health and anti-aging. It is now a multi-billion dollar industry and growing daily. Many of them are empty nesters now, and have found to be concentrating more on themselves. Not only are they looking for this product, but a great deal of them are wide open to another stream of income. Many in my group have long since replaced their income and are feeling great and having the opportunity to travel as well. To tap into this business will cost you $35 USD and then your product which makes the overall cost less than $200 USD. I started earning an income my 2nd day, got all the tax benefits and a product that is so effective that we get thousands of testimonials pouring in all the time. This is definately the place to be in todays market because it is beneficial to absolutely everyone but we find the most demand is with the boomers.
A good business especially with high rising fuel prices is a delivery service aimed at seniors needs and wants . You may even want to add a small limo or bus for taking them places also as alot do not drive or would rather not . Minimum start up costs , good tax breaks , and lots of programs you can hook up with in your locale also .
