Why don't you be a human first?
Stop falling for capitalistic cliches that encourage money making over human development
just go door to door and accept cash so that you don't have to pay taxes.
Go to your bank and talk to a financial planner. They can't answer your lawn moving specific question but they can help you with what it takes to start a business.
What I would try to do is get some money together between yourselves or ask someone (perhaps your parents) to give you a loan so you can purchase a good lawn mower and a weed wacker, then just drum up business by going door to door and soliciting business or maybe you can make up flyers on the computer and just stick them in people's doors. Here's a tip-go to houses especially that the grass looks long in the yard, those are people who are too busy to do it themselves. Once you get a few houses you'll undoubtedly get people noticing you and you'll get more word of mouth business that way. Pay back your loaners for the lawn mower and all if you have to borrow and then start dividing the profits and saving money! Good luck!

YUP! You and your buddies can get your own business up and running relatively inexpensively. There are a few things you really should be aware of. One important thing is taxes which are a legal obligation so make sure to keep good records of your business income and expense. You can claim business expenses for any advertising you have to do, transportation costs, uniforms, business cards, etc. Why should YOU guys pay those things to keep the business running? Another very important thing to consider is insurance. Make sure you have insurance because even at 16, you (your parents and/or business) can be sued for any reason. Seriously look into it. A friend of mine accidentally broke a window with a rock shooting from a lawnmower. It wasn't enough to fix the window. The old man sued for other so-called damages. There are alot of responsibilities with businesses so make sure you know them but definately go for your dreams. The money will follow.
Kudos for wanting to become an entrepreneur! I would say the most important thing is marketing! You can print up fliers advertising your lawn-mowing services, but seeing as fall/winter is fast approaching, I would throw in a leaves pick up business. That way you have a steady stream of income all year round. I would personally hire my friends and pay them a fee to cut the grass, so that way I build a company, one that can be sold years down the road. I would create a list (database) of customers and market to these folks and do such as good job they will be more than happy to give you referrals. By having people work for you, you can generate $$ by not doing the real back breaking work, but be the face that goes out and secures the lawn mowing & leaves pick up gigs. Good luck and best wishes in your quest to become an enterpreneur. One thing I have found is that people would rather work for someone else and think this is a safe and secure job! Companies are not an generous as they used to be, It is unheard of to see people work for the same companies at age 21 and retire from those companies. Keep in mind there is also a tax issue, but if it is set up as a business, you get to write things off that are unheard off! Like you have lunch with your new employees where you discuss how you can improve your lawn service offerings and you can write off the cost of the meals. I would also have some form on insurance that would protect you, your business and parents from law suits should there be a negligent act. During the pre-Industrial age, we made our own way! With the money you make, I would reinvest a portion back into the business, some as a salary and the rest invest in other money making ventures. Again, best wishes and good luck.
Lawn service is great but you need to diversify into other things.
