How do I find out if someone has a criminal record without paying any money?
Answer:
Well, as their employer, you have their permission to do the search from their application, right? That will help because then you can use the information disclosed on the applciations.
If you want accurate information on yoru employees without having to go through each place they have lived and contact city, county, and state officials as well as paying any sort of research/copy fees, you are most likely going to have to pay a service.
The good news is you have several from which to chose AND there are some available that charge one small fee for two years worht of service, unlimited checks. So anyway, shop around and you can find what you need. Each services offers different thigns though, so read the terms of service.

Go to your local court house, all felony convictions are public record you can look them up yourself. Or call the local county court house and ask them for their website address to access public records.
You can search the site of the nearest jail in the county they live in and they should have certian free records..But watch out if they have any knowledge that this is happening you can be reported for discrimantion..It happend to my boss.
