Does anyone know a good food suppler for a restaurant?

I wanted to check prices on starting a sub shop but I don't know where to look everything I find online seems like a rip off.

Answer:
There is a food supply company in Lenexa, Kansas called Sysco. Most of the restaurants I've worked in (which there are plenty) use them, and they make quality stuff. Everything from precooked things you just warm up to fresh raw ingredients. They are worth a look.
From personal experience managing multiple restaurants going with one supplier can be suicide as you will often get better rates from multiple different one but make sure you check for shipping discounts. Local bread suppliers can often be a very economical solution when buying in bulk grains. Local Produce suppliers also will typically be cheaper and the quality will be MUCH HIGHER. Also ensure that you are considering how will be your delivery method (will they be delivering or will you be picking up) A Sams or CostCo membership can mean the world.
You're not going to want to buy anything online. The best thing would be to look in the phone book for a food service warehouse like Sysco, Ben E Keith, or US Foodservice. All them up and ask to have an appointment with the sales rep in your area. That way you can establish a charge account, and they can recommend the right levels of food inventory for the size of your establishment. These people are experts, and you can never have too many experts helping you!
