Section 8 housing?

A friend had asked me if I had ever heard of section 8 she was looking for information regarding it. What exactly is it? Who is eligbile? etc etc etc. I have never heard of this. Can anyone help us out?

Answers:
Its a government subsidy for housing cost's. They pay X amount on a rental place and you pay the rest based on your income. Most of the time people are on welfare that get this perk, and most states have a 40 year waiting list. I know california just had 75,000 people fill out paperwork to get on a list..not worth it in my eyes, goodluck!
Section 8 is mentioned because the rental property is eligible (in condition) to be rented using HUD funding and rental assistance for the underpriviledged.

Through the local housing authority, you can apply for assistance with your rent. So, this means that this house can be rented by someone who is receiving Section 8 funding through the local housing authority and Section 8 is the federal statute that allows for HUD funding to funnel down to these underpriviledged persons.

If you are poor, and/or are receiving assistance from the state, like medicaid, you probably qualify. Go to the nearest Housing Authority office and ask for an application and to be placed on their waiting list, if they have one.
From what I know, it is funded by the government (our tax dollars) for people at or below poverty level. Google Housing and Urban Development. You should be able to find something there.
Low income housing. Subsidized by the taxpayers. Free rent, basically. Another government handout for people who can't take care of themselves.
it for pep low income w/job no bad background for like apts. house some like they help you pay your rent
she just needs to go to the HUD, and supply info about employment, tanf, wages, bills, identification etc.
What happens is HUD pays the majority of the rent, and she pays a small mnimum balance according to income an wages.
A great program in which she will be able to breath easier.
My friend was granted sec 8 too, and out of an 800.00 rent, she only paid 30.00 a month. there is a waiting list, so have her get signed up now.
section 8 housing would be for people who have very low income (household income does not exceed 18,000 a year) it is assisted living for people on welfare or who need help payin gtheir rent. keep in mind section 8 housing is in a very bad areas usually. (highh crime rate) as well as you are put on a waiting list to be qualified to live there. you must have no bank account, no assets, make less than 18,000 a year in order to qualify. i would suggest ur friend not live there unless its a dire emergency bc section 8 housing is not in a good area and is considered disgusting and low living.
section 8 is a government program that helps low income family pay most of the rent and sometimes all of it. It is funded through tax payers money.
I am an apartment manager in Michigan that participates in the section 8 program. I am not sure where you are writing from but in Michigan it is very hard to get into the Section 8 program. There is a waiting list of around 5 years from the time you apply. Like now for instance, the waiting lists in this area are closed, meaning that they are no longer accepting applications. Hope this helps.
