Proerty taxes exemptions in Texas?

Is it true that if you purchase a house to live in, and are disabile or over 65 years old you are exempt from a portion of the property taxes?

Answer:
There are a bunch of exemptions in Texas however; I would give you the statistical links from our research files that the State of Texas government has provided to the public answering your question but yahoo answers says that providing links with the proper answers to questions is spamming and using the source of where those links come from is advertising and they rather just have written answers from sources that are not qualified to provide such answers. Here is their letter to me:

Yes, that's true. You'll want to go to the county clerk's website for whatever county you live in - find the property tax department, and it will have details there.

Everyone who lives in their house gets part of the taxes exempted. Disabled people, or people over 65, can also be eligible for a tax "freeze" and additional exemption.
If the property is your primary residence, you can apply for a homestead exemption. Everyone owning a home as their primary residence can get this exmption by filing for it. You MUST file for it, it is not automatically given to you.

There are also exemptions given for a number of other situations. You would need to check with your county appraisal district for more specific information.
