Applying for a rental...with a few personal issues?
So my question is. What is the best way for me to find a rental home? Is there anything on an application that i shouldnt answer or will need to be careful of? What kinds of things are they likely to ask me? And are my chances of finding a place that will accept me really be that slim? I know that they cant 'discriminate' but would they really choose me over a childless working couple even if i can afford to pay the rent and bills?
Answers:
no offense but you have a lot of obstacles in terms of renting. i don't know what area you live in but your best bet would be to rent from a private owner not an apartment complex. because complexes will run your credit-which u stated is shot bc of bankruptcy, secondly, u need to prove income verification, collecting ur child support does not count as income, its support money for your kids needs, i.e. food and clothes. so ur in a rock in a hard place. i suggest if u want to try to rent from a complex have ur mom be your guarantor, which will help improve ur credit and help u get approved. get a job as well to prove income whether it be 10hrs a week or minimal part time, regardless ur kids need ur help and its not right to use their child support to pay your rent. that's your obligation. best of luck to you.
First thing you need to sign up for some housing assistant.
Good Luck....
Melanie, I don't know if this will help or not but I am a single mom too and was in your shoes. I am looking to move for work reasons and my home is on a lease to own arrangement with Century 21. That means I finance it for you and if the house interests you I will rent it to you with an option to buy. You can check the house, located in Vestal NY(Zip code 13850) at realtor.com MLS ID # 155836. Honesty is the best policy and that is why I am going through a realtor using a contract to be drawn by a lawyer. You can call my realtor: Sally Youngstrom at 1-(800)525-0044 or speak with Dave Ackerman at 1-(866) 527-2953. I am looking to move before my boy has to start school next fall so if all goes well, you could be living in my home by July 1st. There are no liens on the house other than the original mortgage, which is current. Neighborhood is good too. Nex t door neighbor is a retired police officer and volunteer fireman across the street. School district has very high ratings.
