A great way for my property taxes to come down.?

With an end in sight of the hyper-inflated, overpriced real estate, I think we all deserve a break on the property taxes based on "value" of said property.

Does anyone else get gouged by the state level for their property taxes?

Answer:
Your taxes are based upon assessed value. You can look up your assessed value on your tax statements or online at the assessor's site.

Generally in my area, the assessor is actually BEHIND the market, and its assessed 20% lower than its worth.so dont get too excited just yet.

If you can get an indpendant appraisal that proves your home is worth less, you can contest the assessed value. But realize that prices haven't went down at all-- the growth has just slowed and some buyers are able to bargain better with sellers.. it doesnt mean your value went down. .

Also, property taxes are generally on the COUNTY level, not state.
You could always have the tax assessor collector's office of your county come out and do another property apraisal. We did and ours went down $200/year.
My landlord found a way to keep his down. The inside of his house was remodeled beautifully (even a TV and stereo in the bath!), but he let the outside stay as it was, and didn't do exterior remodeling. Still has the original shingles from a centrury ago. Hey, it works.
