"Regions" in France as opposed to just Town names - a website to go from one to the other?

I want to search for Property and holidays in france and lots of websites ask for the "region"
but i know the town names not the regions they are in

Yes it's called wikipedia.

Hi

France is divided into communes, departements, regions.
Not sure if you are looking for departements or regions.

France has a complex zip code system which will help you :

1) Key the town name here : http://www.laposte.fr/rubrique.php3?id_r.
2)The database will give you a postcode.
3)The first two digits of the code will tell you which departement the town is in.

Wikipedia has a chart and map of the departements here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/d%c3%a9part. and regions are here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/r%c3%a9gion.

There is a list of Languedoc-Rousillon postcodes here : http://www.the-languedoc-page.com/proper.

Bonne chance !
