If you get denied for an apartment how long do they have to return your security deposit?

its been 2 months since i have been denied and i still don't have it.i know there is something in the michigan state law that they have like 30-60 days

Answers:
usually, if you were denied the apt. you should have been notified way before you even gave them a deposit. that usually happens after your application has been approved already. in your case, i would follow-up with a phone call or a visit to the rental office or property mgmt co. where you originally filled out the application and find out the status of your deposit refund.
if you were denied they were suppose to give it back to you right away. last time when i was denied i got the $$ back the day after they called, i just went down and piced it up. your talking about the deposit to hold it till your approved right? i would call them and ask them about YOUR money
It varies by state, in California its 21 days. Go to www.yourpropertypath.com. Now, law is always changing so be sure to check with your local apartment association. www.yourpropertypath.com has a list of about 600 apartment associations under the directory section
