Ownership history of land/property in US - how do I access public records?
Answer:
An increasing number of counties have made land records accessible online. Go to the official county government website and find the office for either the "County Clerk" or the "County Recorder of Deeds." Look for "Land Records." If you know the name of the person or entity that owned the property when you rented it, then you can do a search for that person's land holdings, find the document that shows who they bought the property from..And then do a search for the former owner's land transactions, and find the document that shows when they bought the property, and who from..And so on.
Of course this only works if the records are online. But in a lot of counties, they are.
What is the city, county and state that the property is located in?
Just walk into your local County courthouse. Be polite, explain what you need, they'll help you find it.
The best way would be to go to the county clerk's office and search for the deed. However, if you don't live there anymore .
The Recorders Office in the county will have those records. You'll probably have to go there is person.
