What do you look for when selecting a Real Estate agent?
Answer:
Word of mouth is usually your best bet. Talk to friends and family that live around you and find out who they have used before and what their experience was like. You can also look online by doing a search in your area for realtors and then just start calling. Make sure that you go with a reputable company and most importantly make sure you feel comfortable and not pushed. This will be one of the most stressful situations you can be put in since this is such a large purchase so make sure that you take your time and feel like you know exactly what is going on and when.
Ask your friends for referrals first. If nothing comes up, just start calling Realtors of homes you like for sale and when you find someone you click with, work with them. It should be someone who has been in business at least 2 years and sells more than 12 homes a year. You should be able to trust the Realtor and feel comfortable with them. You will be relying on them heavily for support.
A good recommendation. Realtors have reputations not unlike those of lawyers. Best to use someone with whom a colleague or friend has had good experience.
Discount if i am selling and rebate if i am buying
Remember:
1. If you're buying a house, an agent is looking out for the seller (higher price, more commmision for them).
2. If you're selling a house, they're still looking out for themselves!
On the otherhand, there is a group who my uncle works for, and they're trying to implement a system called the Jenman System (see link in source). If you're in Sydney, its Knox Family Real Estate. Don't get put off by their prices because they are based on the North shore but they may be able to put you in touch with an agency that uses the Jenman System.
always go for top 10% agent, they are doers and they will get things done.
