How can you for free find out how much a house sold for in 2005? public records not helping!?

Answer:
try domania.com its free to use it show property sales back to 1987 .. some areas if doesnt work well.. my area I can get sales from last year . sign up .. go to home check enter the address of the home and click this address only to search for see if it works for you.. if you cant get it to work email me the address I will look on it for you I have an account there..
Go to the Town Hall or City Hall for the Town or City that the house is in. There are deed books that will tell you how much a house sold for. This information is open to the public. Just ask for help.
Go the the local county records department and purchase a copy of the title transfer with the lean information on the document. It will give you an idea of how much was financed towards the purchase of the house.
Go to the recorder of deeds at the courthouse. They have all information for the sale of houses and who the holder of the loan is.
I know in the town I live in the tax assesor (always mix up the spelling of that) has their own website and they list the most recent sale. Otherwise the town/city hall should have records.
The only thing this will apply to is if they don't own the land, in which case it is not part of the public record.

For instance, manufactured homes on rented spaces.
If you are able to pull the public tax records, then check to see how much the past buyer paid for rev. stamps during the transaction . Then find out how much your state charges per $1000, and divide it out.
Hope this helps.
You can look up tax records by address on zillow.com
