Can they increase the month to month rent after 6 months lease is over?

I had a 6 month lease which is going to terminate. The lease agreement says: "The term of this agreement is 6 months. The monthly rent amount shall be 860.00. Agreement will automatically continue as a tenancy from month to month at the end of the term specified, until terminated as allowed by law."

The management is now telling me that my month to month rent
will be $980.00.

Can they do this ? Can I oppose this action?

Thanks!

Answer:
They can raise you rent every month Based on Market Value, If they rent the same size apartment next month, To a new tenant for $1500, They can raise your rent to the same. Welcome to Month to Month Renting.
Yes, unfortunately they can. Why not try to get into an affordable house with a low down payment?
Only if they have unexpected expenses, like increase in insurance or property taxes
Yes it is legal to raise the rent amount if you are renting on a month to month basis. It is best to resign a 6 month lease at a fixed rate or a longer lease if you wish to stay a longer amount of time so that your rent stays at a fixed rate.
yes they sure can! you might ry leasing again for another 6 month period. that way your lanlord know that you will be staying put and it is less risk for them.
yes they can
