Buying land while over seas?

I am working in Iraq(civilian) I have found land in the states that I want badly! Is there anyway to purchase it while I'm here so that I dose'nt sell before I return? Is there any other fees when buying land other than the sale price? People say you have to pay to get the land apraised is this true? If there are other things needing to be done, can I buy now and have them done later?

Answer:
Things like appraisals have to be done in advance in order to secure financing unless of course you are paying cash. I would still adise you to have the property appraised to make sure there are no enviormental issues etc. that might end up costing you in the long run. You can still purchase the property even if your in Iraq. You would need to give someone(most likely an attorney or close family member) power of attorney so that all the documents can be signed on your behalf. Even though you are in Iraq I would strongly urge you to have all tests, appraisals done as you normally would in order to protect yourself and your investment. Good Luck!
Get ahold of the Realtor who has the land listed. If it is privately for sale, get ahold of an attorney and have them handle the whole deal for you. There will be extra expenses, but it will be handled right. They will let you know everything that is required. Good Luck!
