Is it descrimination to say no to a renter becouse of someone in their family is a tuck driver.?
Answer:
yes definitley
just move on
what is so bad about being a truck driver.?
Depends. Tell me what a tuck is first.
What is wrong with a truck driver? If there isn't adequate parking for his rig when he is home it is one thing but just because you don't like truck drivers is just wrong.
I will admit that this is a type of discrimination that is new to me.
Well, duh. What is the landlord's problem with truck drivers?
I would say it is a silly excuse to not to rent to the person.
but I do know that the renters do have some rights not to rent, depending on the references, especially if the references from other renters, are reported to be very negative.
No, not illegal. A little silly and perhaps ignorant, but it's only illegal to exclude people from a protected class. Truck drivers are not a protected class. There's no way you can compare this to race, religion, gender, etc. Those are protected classes. It's more easily compared to rejecting because one is a smoker. Perhaps the landlord is concerned they might park the truck on the property from time to time and noise factor that goes along with it. Maybe they just had a bad experience with a truck driver. But either way, not illegal.
It's stupid but it's not against the law.
There must be something else going on here, how in the world did your profession as a Truck Driver get into a conversation or on an application of someone Else wanting to rent the unit.
You could ask for a Rental agreement and see if it excludes all family members that drive big rigs and have a CDL License, chances are there isn't, you could bring that up if it is really that important, but sounds like the Owner has his own criteria for renters, and there is not much you can do about that, unless it involves Race Creed..ect..
Good luck
No.
A person's occupation is not a protected class. The civil rights act creates special classes for discrimination.
Race
Color
Nationality
Religion
Sex (male or female NOT orientation)
Disablity
Veteran Status
Another problem is proof.which gets very tricky.
Sorry, it's not the same. And, profession should not be a protected class. This would put us on the road to communism. You should think about the effects of such a rule on the whole US population. Could you imagine the mayhem?
Profession you can change; Race you canNOT change. Professions change through the course of your life; Race doesNOT change.
Is it discrimmination? Yes. Is it legal? Maybe. You'll need to check with an attorney but I'd venture to say that in most jurisdictions a landlord can do that.
they may have ran a credit check and denied on the bases of your credit, background or employement. I don't believe that it is wrong and I think that you should keep looking and try for home ownership
