Is it illegal to rent out two bedrooms in my home to two different renters if it is zoned Single Fam Residentl
Answer:
You should be alright, but check Zoning and Housing Code. For example, the Zoning law where I work limits the residents to no more than four unrelated people living in a single family home.
The Housing code bases the number of occupants on the total square footage, and limits the number of people that can sleep in a room based on that room's square footage. You must also register the property as rental.
No
I'm renting a room in a SFR. Who's going to know?
contact your local police or sheriffs dept. dont tell them your renting them out already. Tell them you are thinking about doing so, ask them if this is legal. I dont see why it would be illegal, its fine where I live in California.. Good luck
That depends on the exact wording of the bylaw
You need to check your local ordinances. And contact the building inspector/zoning board.
Depending on the set-up and local law, they could be considered roommates or you could be in trouble for running an illegal boarding house.
Your neighbor just doesnt want the agravation of the extra people.
You shouldnt have told this person, it sounds like they are very nosy.
Go ahead and do it.
I live in an 1800 sf 4 bedroom house.since my wife dumped me, its very quiet, im thinking about renting out a room for some extra loot, and so it wont be so quiet. Go for it
Don't ask the police, that's just silly, they don't get involved w/ that stuff. Since your neighbor is being a know-it-all then I guess, you could call the city and ask them because it would be a zoning issue if anything but since it is a space already zoned for living then I bet it's going to be fine. Now if you try renting out a garage that you've turned into a bedroom that's a different story.
I think your neighbor is just trying to be the boss of you and is probably worried about street parking or might be jealous of the extra income that you'll get.
People are just wierd and say all kinds of crazy stuff to be in control sometimes.
single family is a zoning designation for a type class of building. Anything beyond single family could be duplex, two fam, multifamily. such as an apartment building or even a class of commercial residences such as hotels and motels.
Check your lease or with your landlord or rental agent to see if it is OK to have boarders.
Good Luck
