When calculating the square footage of the home, should the sf of the basement be included?

Answer:
If the basement is Finished then yes. Otherwise no.
yes
Measure the finised square feet.
Should it be included for what? For appraisal purposes when you calculate the square footage, or what is called gross living area, you do not include the basement area. You should calculate the above grade area and the basement seperately. That way you are not misleading anyone.
Usually you put "Total SF" with both the basement square footage and the above ground square footage combined. Then you state each separately.
yes agree with above that you should measure the square feet of finished area (keep in my typical the sq ft measurements of a house include hallways, bathrooms, and even closets -- i.e., anything liveable)

Good luck.

If you are calculating it for an appraisial or to sell, you should only include it if it is a finished basement, if it is unfinished, list it seperately.
It should be included. But separate from the main living space.
