When you consider incarceration, do you fully understand?
Answer:
I personally don't think they should be denied housing simply because they were incarcerated. I believe the seriousness of the crime should be taken into consideration.
first off..you don't get locked up for protecting yourself.second loser prisoners are draining our country of our resources.they should not be entitled to more things than a regular citizen who plays by the rules.Im sick to death of welfare bums and prisoners live better that the hard working people.they should be cut off commpletely.
yep chances are that you only have their story to go on and there are enough other people who need housing
Some housing boards are taking a second look at incarceration because too many people are being turned down because of a night in jail without a conviction.
As a property manager I unfortunately see that almost every time I make an exception regarding violent offenses, drug related crimes, etc, it always comes back to bite me in the *. Having said that I happen to have a criminal damage charge from when I caught my ex-husband with another woman and broke out the window of the car, that would automatically disqualify me for most rentals, so is it fair? Yeah, probably, because most people don't realize that property managers are hired to protect and enhance what can sometimes be a very large portfolio of property. Then you take into account fair housing and if you let one person in with a violent offense you have to let all in because you can't discriminate. Sometimes what we fight for to obtain equal rights turns around and works against us. If you know that this information is on your record and it isn't quite as bad as the charges would imply make sure you have all your court documents and submit that with your application to show what the actual scenario is. Sometimes that really helps. But be advised most property managers are jaded, they see every hustle and every lie there is so be completely honest and hope for the best.
