How does one go about buying a house that is half way across the country?

Do I need a realtor in the city I live in now? Or do I find one in that city?

We don't have a particular house in mind, We would just like to move.

Answers:
You need to find a realtor in the city you are moving to. National franchises receive what is called a referral fee if you purchase in the other city, no matter where the referral came from. So if you contact a Y A poster here or a national franchise Realtor in your city that you know, they get on their national network, find a Realtor in the city you are considering, give you the name and if you purchase a home, they receive a portion of the commission.

Another option, you can check out websites of Realtors in the area you are considering. After you narrow your search, call a few, see who follows up with you and sends you information. That is Realtor you want to work with.

Good luck!
Try a multilist with agents in both towns; should help if you find something and need to communicate quickly and easily between (Like Century 21)

You will need to find a Realtor in the city where you want to move. I am Realtor and my company is National, if you let me know where you are looking I can make a few refferals for you! Send me an email at Srmheath@yahoo.com. I would love to be of some help, take care,
You should use a local realtor where you are buying. If you have a trusted realtor where you live now, they may be able to make a referral for you.
If you are buying sight unseen, I would insist on having a buyers agency with the out of town realtor. That will make sure they are working for you.
Advice from a broker.
