Where can I buy the cheapest new 5 bedroom house in the USA?

I am looking to buy a newly built house in the USA, where can I buy one at the lowest price in a decent neighbourhood and what will it cost?

Answer:
In response to Malachim it certainly isn't a daft question and Malachim your comparison to airline tickets is naive and ill founded. I take it that Martin D you do not live in the USA? if so your question is a very good idea as each state has expensive and cheap areas, for instance I live in an expensive part of NJ, its price is due to the fact it is only 40 mins from NY and is a commuter paradise. If you look a further hour away from NY in the Pocono Mountains you can pick up a new 5 bed 3 bathroom for around $190000.

As Malachim mentioned the USA is a vast country but that is EXACTLY why your question is valid, there are users here who have local knowledge of their state which would be impossible to glean without searching many real estate agents data bases and can post examples on here for you to compare which will give you greater options and more information.

So I would suggest looking at one of the gated communities in The Pocono Mountains and I would also suggest ignoring comments from well intentioned but ill informed posters!

I forget the name of the town, but my wife was trying to get me to buy a house in a small town in northern Texas. A five bedroom ran less than $10,000.
Apparently Pittsburgh was rated one of the cheapest places to live in the US. See article linked below.
Speak to some estate agents and tell them your requirements, hopefully they will definately be able to help.
Here's a cheap one for you: MLS 809859 but it's not new..

You need to choose a location and look around with a broker. At least start with realtor.com and look a properties yourself for a bit.

Your interpretation of "newly built" and "decent neighborhood" may be different than others. The realtor you work with will need more specifics.
Forgive my rudeness, but what a daft question - can't you at least narrow it down to a State?

It can't have missed your attention but the USA is huge! You can't just decide, 'right, I've got $xxx,000 for a 5 bedroom pad, I'll moved to America. Besides which, like Canada, they have a lot more land to go round so, short of the big inner cities like central NewYork 4-5 bedrooms is more the norm, generally.

Not sure of the America Equivalent, I'd have to Google it - or you can :p, but in Canada there is the MLS. Basically all the realtors/estate agents submit details to a nationwide database.

You choose the area, type of house, number of bedrooms, bathrooms, price range and Voila! - all those in that range, with images, details, cantact details, mortgage rates and even videos from some realtors!

Looking for a 5 bedroom house in Lethbridge, Alberta in the $250-$400,000 range (about £125-£200,00) give 17 options straight off.

The (rather long) link below is for the least of these - a spacious 5 bedroom house for $250k CAN (£117,500 GBP at current rates)

Addenda:

Yep, http://www.realtor.com works for the States, but again you have to narrow it down to state and city.

Comparison to your question:
*) I'd like an airline ticket to America, please.
**) Certainly sir, what is your destination?
*) Somewhere with a decent neighbourhood.
**) Ummm!?

Addenda 2:
Using Spokane, Washington as an example, there's whopping 189 five+ bedroom properties available in the $200-400,000 range.
