Is it a good idea to sell my home in one town to move to the next town over in order to get baetter schools?

Answer:
If you have no immediate ties to the town you are in and think that schooling would be better then I would say go for it. Getting a good education is extremly important and if your kids can get one in the next town then they should.
Yes--so you can learn how to spell "better", lol
it is an excellent idea. we just recently did that. and my son loves his school. our children are the future of this country and i want to make every effort to make sure they attend a good school.
Works for me.
many people do this, the one thing you'll have to consider is the possible increase in taxes just to do so.
That is a question that can be answered financially. If the housing prices are equal and you move, it will cost you approximately 10% of the value of your house (real estate agency fees plus closing costs). Then divide that figure by the number of years your child will be in school. (Ex. $200,000 house will cost 20,000 to sell and buy an equivalent..20k/ 5 years of the child going to this school district= $4,000 yearly). If there is a private school that is better and cheaper, I'd keep the house and send them.
I think it would be a better idea to keep your home and just pay the extra money that the other school would charge to have your child as a student. That way can work. If it is not too far, you could take your child to school and if you are paying money for your child to attend a different school, they may have transportation for such students.

Really, if you can, keep your house. You probably have a lot of time and money invested in keeping up your home.
Selling your home is a big step. Factors to think about:

Do you have equity in your home yet to make a profit from the sale?

Do you know your children will like the next school?
Is the school better?
Are taxes higher in the next town?
Are realestate prices in your town going up fast?
What about the next town ar ethe prices going up fast?

If you are not worried about money and finances then think about the children, is it whatthey want or what you want?

Do you want to move?
Is it safer in the other town?
Do they have friends in the other school?

Think about those few factors before your move and think about the cost of moving and how long it can take to close on a home sale. Renting your home out and getting a heloc on your homes value to put down on another home might be a good choice so you can undo the move if you want..

Just ideas.
