Advise please - say you have a total of US$15,000, 53 years old, no other source of income,?

you rent, no car, how would you manage/invest?
Serious answers only please.

Answer:
do not invest.it is a waste of time and money and you will never have 3 million to retire like the rest of the world
just take a job you like and take the bus to work and just let the money earn a little interest and relax..before you retire, spend it or hide it and let the government provide you with what you need..
you will survive and do a little something special once in a while ou can perhaps rent a car for a few days to go away..
join the rest of us we are all in the same boat..the haves and the have nots
No income? none. Go to a car auction and buy a really good cheap car. resell it ,and theres your income. do that once a month you'll be OK. Ask a used car dealer whats involved in doing this sort of business.
i would hang on to the avaliable cash look for other means of transportation, bus, bike, walk get a job doing anything grow from there, when you bankroll twice what you have now buy a cheap automobile, look for cheap food ect, stay away from drinking and if you smoke quit, Wow no vises, that sucks, try exercising and getting in shape for a hobby you will improve economicaly and strenghten your mind and body, good luck
Massage school.

It probably won't cost $15,000 but you'll need cash to live on while you build your clientele. If you live in the right place, you could be certified and working within the month making $300 a day.

P.S. You really have to be healthy and love people.

Another, less lucrative option, but better for healthy people who are less caring for other humans: Landscaping.

Start cheap with a mower, blower and wheelbarrow, buy a beater truck, get an unemployed young person who wants to work and voila - you're a landscaper.

If you hate people and aren't healthy but you have good grammar and like to read, how about freelance book indexing? The USDG offers cheap correspondence courses, about $300. Then buy a computer, a macrex program, (about 3 grand total now). Make acquaintances with publishers and within a few months, while you're still training you can be doing commision jobs starting cheap. By the time you complete your study, you'll have experience and can charge more, say $2-4000 a month, if you're good and can work on a deadline. Great stay at home job, or travel with your work.

If none of this sounds feasible, spend the money on some rehab counseling for your health or your mental state. Money needs to be spent to make money, and your body and mind are the closest thing you will ever get to a permanent investment.

Write in a journal daily to get in touch with what it is you really want to do.

Finally, $15000 goes fast when you aren't working, so get busy!
Without any other information, I would have to say that your best option could very well be starting your own business.

I don't think you will be realistically able to earn enough from any conventional investment to live on - if that is what you are asking.

The type of business you would have to start is important, and I don't have any suggestions on that topic. Or you would have to get a job AND start some type of part-time business.
