I opened and deposited money. It says I must leave the money in there for at least 180 days to be able to take the money out without penalty. I deposited the money on 11/28/2006, Can I take the money out on 05/30/2007 without penalty? Where is there a website I can go to to figure out if this length of time is 180 days or more ? I thought www.bankrate.com would have this, but I cannot find it on there.
Answers:
I am assuming you deposited the money in a CD? You can take out the interest at any time without penalty if thats the case. Your bank should be able to tell you the maturity date with just a phone call.
Find out if it's business days or regular days, then get a calendar and count. Better safe than sorry, so give your self a couple of extra days before you take any out.
If in a bank CD, you have entered into a contact to keep the money deposited for 180 days. Otherwise, you may withdraw early but there is a penalty-usally 6 month's interest for early withdrawal. Next time, read the contract or ask questions.
