If you get a bill from a debt collection agency and then it goes to court what happens?
Answer:
Before you go to court, contact the collection agency, tell them you are unemployed and offer to settle for half of what you owe or you will declare bankruptcy. If they do not agree, do it.
you go to court i guess. unless u get it sorted
It depends on the judgement of the court and your previous debt history ( CCJ's ) etc.
Yes it certainly can be, and that is why you should avoid the situation at all costs, even if you contact the debt collection agency and agree with them repayments that you can realistically afford. Most agencies will allow you to do this.
Your credit rating is already affected by not paying your bill in the first place. Most likely you will just get a judgement on you to pay the debt off which possibly could affect your credit rating.
Also the judge could let them garnish your wages until the debt is paid.
Depends on what kind of debt it is. If store card, bank loan or catalogue, it is very unlikely they will take you to court. If the debt is utilities or authority (i.e council tax) then they will obtain a CCJ from the court. You dont have to attend to such cases. If a judgement is granted to your debtor then they will then try and get an attachment of earnings or the court bailif may try and seize your goods.
