I am a mortgage loan officer looking to expand my business and get referrals. What is the best way to do that?

Here are some ideas for you. Send letters to your sphere of influence. That's everyone that you know: family, friends, people you go to church with, people you went to school with, your neighbors, etc. Tell them that you are looking for new clients and would appreciate any referrals. After your initial letter, send a postcard about once a month just to remind them that you are looking for new clients. If you have the time and the means you could do a quarterly newsletter that talks about interest rates and the housing market, etc.
Another thing you can do is call the different real estate companies and ask to come and talk to the agents at their sales meeting. I was a Realtor for a while and we had different lenders come to some of our meetings to talk about what they can do for buyers. If you have pens with your company name then take a pen for everyone. Also, offer to bring refreshments. If it's a morning meeting, pick up a couple dozen donuts. Take a printout showing what loans you do and what the current interest rates are. Take business cards to pass out to the agents that are present and ask if you can leave a stack in the office. After your meeting you might want to e-mail about once a month. Most real estate companies have their agents' e-mails on their web site. Also, offer to do fliers for them to use at open houses. A lot of buyers use the lender the Realtors recommend so if you can get them to try you and you do a good job then they will recommend you.
Last, but not least, give good customer service so your clients will refer you to their friends. Anytime you have a new client add them to your sphere of influence list and include them in your mailings. When you close the loan ask them who they know that is looking to buy a house or refinance.
