I'm on tax credits and would like to know....?

if i would have to pay for a divorce..or could get legal aid.

i get help with both my rent and council tax as i dont earn enough to pay the full amount....but would i have to pay the full amount for a divorce?

Answer:
ring a solicitor as most will give a free hours advice or even answer it over the phone......plus they are qualified and it is yours and your kids lives you are playing with
You should get legal aid? Make a phonecall to a solicitor to check it out. Tell the tax credit people to if youve split....you might get more money :-)
You should get lagal aid which will cover the cost of a divorce as long as it's not contested.
I'm on tax credits, no help with council tax or rent but I do get legal aid for my divorce
You will get legal aid but they will look at your full situation and you may have to make a contribution.
Loopy_Luo is very true.

You should contact a Solicitor and request what is called a 'free visit'. This will allow you to explain the problem, they can tell you what could happen and how successful it can be and then you'll be given a quote on the price. You can then decide if you want to hire them. I'm sure they would be able to tell you if you can still get legal aid even though your on Tax Credits.

However, get a quote first before you hire them.

Then again check out http://www.legalservices.gov.uk. where you also might find out.

Finally, go here http://www.clsdirect.org.uk/legalhelp/ca. and click on the link at the bottom of the page below the main text to AUTOMATICALLY see if you are eligable.

:-)
Maybe you should consider visiting your local Citizens Advice bureau as they will be able to give you free legal advice and what paths you should take!
You should qualify for legal aid. The best advise I can give is to make an appointment with a solicitor and seek their advise. I think it is dependant on your actual income and whether you are the person seeking the divorce. Citizens advice bureau can advise you of your rights.
