Am I responsible for any old cable bill that is 9 years old?

I recently got cable again and I have paid in advance and yesterday I get a letter from the cable company asking me for and old balance from 9 years ago or they will cut my cable off. Is this legal to do, I wonder. It has been more than 7 years.

Answer:
I believe it is, unless it was subject to a bankruptcy order . think yourself lucky they are not charging interest.

You might contest it, though, on the grounds that they (presumably) haven't pursued the debt for more than six years but you might need legal assistance for that.
yes it is, if you were in dept to them and did not pay it you are still in dept to them, the only thing that gets wiped after 7 years is your bad credit history
Contact the cable company in writing that you disbute the debt. They have the right to refuse you service, but they do have to return any advanced funding you have paid them for your current service.
That's called zombie debt. No it is not legal.
Did you use hte services the cable company provided?
Then yes, you are.
