I was given some stock by my aunt, and the certificate has conflicting information. Can someone explain?

The conflicting info. is as follows:

In the upper right hand corner, it indicates 100,000 shares.

In a box in the middle of the certificate, it says 40,000 shares common stock, - $01 par value.

And below, it certifies that I am the registered holder of 100,000 shares.

I've never held stock before, and would like to have an explanation for the two different amounts. Thanks for your help.
