A QUESTION FOR BANKERS PL HELP! Can I ask the bank to show me my cheque that they have passed in 2005?

This is a very reputed bank. I issued two cheques payable to the bank in 2005. To my utter dismay, the transaction took place but the money went to two 'persons' one of who was the bank employee and the other someone unknown to me. When I wrote to the bank about this, I was informed that the cheques were payable "To (the name of the bank) A/c. (the employee)" and "To (the name of the bank) A/c. (Mr. X)". I was shocked as I had issued the cheques payable to the bank only. To me it appeared as though the other names were added by one of their employee who was posing as though he was helping me. It seems now that this employee has swindled me of my money with both the cheques. The only proof I have is a copy of my cheque book log where I have clearly written in the Payee column the bank's name in both cases.

I would like to know whether the bank is obliged to physically show me those cheques and whether they are obliged to give me photocopies for further action. Please help.

Answer:
SURE FOR A $15.00 FEE THEY WILL GIVE THEM TO YOU AND FOR $30.00 WE WILL GIVE YOU THE ORIGINALS SO YOU MAY COMPARE HANDWRITING AND INK ON THE CHECKS TO SEE IF THEY WERE ALTERED . GO TO YOUR BANK IN PERSON TO DO THIS ALSO .
They should be required to do so by law.
Go to your bank and tell them you would like a copy of the those two checks and they'll give them to you.
The bank that the checks are written on can and normally will maybe for a small fee show you past checks if you have a dispute. The take a picture of all the checks on microfiche and they keep the checks as well. So yes ask and they must show you or get a lawyer. IF the bank is pulling a scam.
I get a copy of all my checks with my statement the bank keeps the originals some banks send originals still. I have to pay $15.00 to order back statements from my bank. This has copies of my checks included I am sure your bank has copies of your originals.
Banks will provide copies of paid checks to their customers. The bank may impose a per hour research charge to the tune of about $25 per hour.

What about your statement for that monthly cycle? If you can locate that, it should provide you with an image of the checks in question.

Lastly, too much time has lapsed for being accusatory to the bank's employee.
