Am I resposible for credit card debt of my(now separation) wife who is the primary card holder (I'm secondary)
Answer:
If you are an authorized user, you are not responsible. If you are a co or joint account holder, you will be responsible if it is not paid.
yes you are liable for half.
If you signed for it, even as a secondary cardholder, you are liable.
Your divorce decree will not erase a debt to a credit card company. All it will do is enable you to sue your ex for whatever the credit card company made you pay on the debt.
Contact the credit card and cancel your name off of the account now!
Short answer your divorce decree will settle this.
Do pay for a good lawyer and do it right if you get to this point. Use findlaw.com to find a local one. Ask a Friend who went through it with a lawyer.
I will suggest one other step it is important that you notify the credit card company and any other places where you have debt potential immediately that you are no longer together and you would like the card to be suspended. This will stop future amounts. There is some "grey" area when you actually are no longer equally responsible for debts. Some states it is at legal separation, some at divorce and some at the settlements discretion.
Good luck
You will be responsible for half probably - unless you can prove the purchases were not made to benefit both of you
if they can't get your spouse, they will try and get you.
